What makes a supervisor effective?

During my workshop ‘Stepping Up to Supervisor,’ a key discussion point is: “What makes a supervisor effective?” Participants select their top 5 choices from a class-generated list of best characteristics/behaviors. The totals from 215 participants yielded a surprising answer. Trust/Trustworthy/Honest received the greatest number of votes (53%), outranking ‘good communicator’(41%), ‘respectful’(39%), ‘empowers/challenges’ (31%), ‘knowledgeable’ (30%), and ‘fair’(29%).

I will be discussing how to build and foster trust in the workplace in a future post. But for today,I’d like to invite you to participate in the survey below.
